"I never ever write reviews, but I had to study on my own to take the servsafe manager test and this app helped me out so much! It was mostly the fact that whenever you answer a question they give you an explanation. That information helps so much! You can also set the difficulty which was nice. Do yourself a favor and use this app if you need to take the manager test without taking the class first."

Study Tips
  • The ServSafe Manager exam has 90 questions, but only 80 count toward your score. The other 10 are sneaky “pilot” questions to test future exam items. You’ll never know which ones are the freebies, so treat them all like they matter.

  • You get 2 hours. That’s 120 minutes to prove you know how to keep food safe, prevent cross-contamination, and avoid giving anyone a side of salmonella. Pace yourself, but don’t panic.

  • Expect questions on foodborne illnesses, safe cooking temps, cleaning and sanitizing, cross-contamination, food storage, and employee hygiene. Basically, it’s a crash course in “Don’t Poison Your Customers 101.”

  • You’ll need at least a 70% to pass. That means answering 56 out of the 80 scored questions correctly. In other words, you can miss a chunk and still survive.

  • Exams are usually offered at testing centers, through proctors at restaurants or schools, or online with approved supervision. No, you can’t take it on your couch in pajamas without someone watching.

  • It typically costs around $50-$100, depending on the testing option and whether you need study materials. Think of it as cheaper than a health code violation.

  • Head over to the official ServSafe website, pick your exam type, and sign up. If you’re testing with a proctor, you’ll schedule through them. It’s like booking tickets, but instead of a concert, you get food safety regulations.

  • The exam is offered year-round, but availability depends on your testing location or proctor. It’s not once-a-year like the SATs. You can usually find a slot that works for your schedule.

  • Nope. Anyone can take it. But having some food service knowledge or work experience definitely makes the questions less scary. Walking in cold is possible, but not fun.

  • Yes. If you fail, you can retake it. There are some waiting period rules (usually a few days between tries), and after a couple of fails, you may have to wait longer. But hey, second chances are baked right in.

  • Yes. ServSafe offers certifications like ServSafe Food Handler, Alcohol, Allergens, and Manager. The Manager exam is the big one for supervisors, while the Food Handler is more basic for entry-level staff. Think of Manager as the driver’s license and Food Handler as the learner’s permit.
