“I feel a lot more confident going into this test now thanks to this app. I’ve definitely recommended it to friends.”
  • ELW1968, 09/01/2025

“It tracked progress in all key areas and let me focus in on my troubled spots. I wasn't up to 80% in any area when I took the exam. In fact, just above 70% across the board, and I received a pass or greatly exceeded in every area.”

Study Tips
  • The PMP exam has 180 questions. But before you panic, only 175 count toward your score. The other 5 are “pretest” questions that the exam sneaks in to try out for future versions. Think of them as the freeloaders of the test.

  • You’ll have 230 minutes (that’s 3 hours and 50 minutes) to answer all 180 questions. There are also two optional 10-minute breaks, so you can stretch, panic briefly, then return refreshed.

  • The exam is divided into three domains: People (42%), Process (50%), and Business Environment (8%). In simpler terms: leading teams without mutiny, getting projects across the finish line, and making sure your work actually matters to the business.

  • The exact passing score isn’t published, but it’s generally believed to be around 60-70%. In other words, you don’t have to be perfect, just solid enough to prove you won’t sink a project.

  • You can take it online from home (hello pajamas and coffee) or in-person at a Pearson VUE testing center if you like the thrill of fluorescent lights and proctors.

  • For Project Management Institute (PMI) members, the exam fee is $405. For non-members, it’s $655. Becoming a member can save you money, plus you get resources, so it’s like Costco for project managers.

  • First, apply through the PMI website. They’ll review your eligibility (experience and education requirements). Once approved, you’ll get the green light to schedule your exam with Pearson VUE.

  • The exam is offered year-round, both online and in testing centers. Basically, it’s always waiting for you, like that one project task you keep putting off.

  • Yes. You’ll need either a four-year degree plus 36 months of project management experience, or a high school diploma/associate’s degree plus 60 months of experience. You’ll also need 35 hours of project management education or a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification. In short, PMI doesn’t let just anyone into the club.

  • Yes, up to 3 times within your one-year eligibility window. If it takes all three tries, don’t worry, you’re just showing persistence, which is a project manager’s superpower.

  • Yes. The CAPM is like the PMP’s younger sibling, with fewer experience requirements, a bit easier, and great for those starting out. PMI also offers specialty certifications like PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) and PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional) if you want to level up in specific areas.

  •  We’re sorry to see you go, and if you’ve already passed your exam, congratulations! 🎉
