The number of questions depends on which ACCUPLACER tests your school requires. The Reading, Arithmetic, Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS), and Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) tests each have 20 questions. The Writing test has 25 questions. WritePlacer is an essay test rather than a multiple-choice test. Your school may require only certain sections based on its placement policies.

Most ACCUPLACER tests are untimed, allowing you to work carefully through each question. However, a testing institution may set a time limit for WritePlacer essay tests. The total amount of time you spend testing will depend on how many sections your school requires.

ACCUPLACER evaluates skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. Depending on the sections you take, topics may include reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, statistics, geometry, functions, and advanced algebra. ACCUPLACER also offers WritePlacer essay and ESL assessments.

There is no universal passing or failing score for the standard ACCUPLACER placement tests. Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, QAS, and AAF are scored from 200 to 300, and each college or institution determines which scores are required for placement into its courses. Check with your school to find out the score you should aim for.

If you are taking ACCUPLACER specifically for Ability to Benefit (ATB) purposes, separate federally established passing scores may apply.

ACCUPLACER is commonly taken at a college, university, or approved testing center. Some institutions also allow students to test remotely with an approved proctor. Contact the school you plan to attend first to find out where and how you should take your test.

In many cases, yes. However, ACCUPLACER retake rules are established by the institution administering the test. Your school may limit the number of attempts or require you to wait before retesting. College Board recommends allowing time to review and practice before taking the test again, so check with your testing center for its specific retake policy.

Yes. ACCUPLACER includes several assessments designed to measure different academic skills:
